Ash Fest 2016

Ash River Extreme Festival

Whitewater Festival

Clarens, Free State, South Africa

29 to 31 July 2016

It is almost time again for the annual Ash Fest. The festival is hosted by Whitewater Training. Again this is part of the extreme downriver race series of whitewater kayaking events. As with Thrombi Fest we will also have a SUP downriver race at Ash Fest.

SUP Race Details:

Head to head races with heats to advance to the finals.

The race section will be Allesverloren rapid. It is a relatively technical and short section.

First standing paddler over the line will win the heat. Paddlers not attempting to stand will not advance.

Equipment:

This is cold water paddling, so be prepared with cold water gear.

This is whitewater so make sure you have the needed safety equipment.

PFD and helmet will be compulsory and inspected.

Leashes are not mandatory and only allowed with a quick release buckle.

Boards will be limited to 11′ and shorter.

Social Paddle:

We will have a social paddle down the top section of the Ash River during the festival. This is an easier section than the race section and a beautiful section for river SUP.

Preparing for Ash Fest 2016:

If you are unsure about whitewater SUP or technique just give me a shout and join me for a river paddling day or two in Parys. I am happy to show you the ropes.

Remember to grow your moustache as there will again be a MoustASH prize.
